Roberta Richin Memorial Vision Plan Award
The Roberta Richin Memorial Vision Plan Award is given to a young leader participating in the summer retreat. Announced during Open Doors, the retreat’s closing ceremony, the fund grants $500 to an individual to further a vision plan. The award was created in honor of the late Roberta Richin, a recipient of MCW’s 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award, a past Board of Directors member, and a passionate supporter of MCW Global Roberta devoted her life to advancing equity, building capacity and increasing opportunity so every young person learns well, stays safe, graduates and participates in a rewarding civic and private life.
Alex Nordquist Memorial Fund
Established in the memory of Alex Nordquist, an intern during summer 2014, funds support the Young Leaders Program. During his internship, Alex attended our 17th summer retreat and along with co-intern Jake Richman, supported the team. In all his interactions with the team, speakers, and young leaders from around the world, he left a lasting and powerful impression on everyone. He is deeply missed. Below is a message from Alex’s family:
“Alex passed away from complications related to lung infection and multiple organ failure. One of the highlights of his life was working for MCW this summer. The experiences he had and the people he met had great effect on him. He has said many times that his future was in Africa or the Middle East. Unfortunately, he will never get to act on his passions. In lieu of flowers we would like to have people make a donation to MCW to carry on your work, work that Alex felt so passionate about.”
George Sideris Memorial Scholarship Fund
The George Sideris Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to honor the memory of the late Dr. George Sideris, a biologist teaching at New York University and Long Island University. This fund celebrates George’s commitment to MCW Global and the communities it serves, his passion for teaching and educational travel, and his conviction that the gift of education should be available to all, the world over. The scholarship provides leaders involved with MCW Global or one of its affiliate organizations in Africa for 2+ years with support to advance their education via scholarships and stipends to certificate or full degree programs.
