Fifth Edition of the MCW Global’s Community Leaders in Africa Internship Program

New York, NY- October 15, 2024- MCW Global held its 5th edition of the Community Leaders in Africa Internship Program between June 1 and October 1, 2024.

The program provides an internship opportunity to the Young Leaders Program alumni to develop their community development skills and equips them to address communities’ pressing needs worldwide. As part of the program, interns engage in an intensive professional and leadership experience at one of our affiliate organizations in Rwanda, Tanzania, or Zambia.

Through this immersive program, they gain practical, professional community development experience while identifying and working on leadership skills and tools, increasing their self-awareness, and working in a multicultural environment.

Interns spent three months working with our Affiliate organizations. Dina Hanbak from Egypt joined MC-Zambia as a Communication Intern, and Mayamiko Chimbali from Malawi joined MC-Tanzania as a Partnerships and Resource Mobilization Intern.

Under the support and guidance of Sharon Matongo, who herself was a Communications Intern for MC-Rwanda, Dina assisted MC-Zambia in a hybrid capacity for content development for the website and social media. She also participated in and contributed to in-person campaigns and activities.

“Being part of the MC-Zambia team offers a credible journey, where one can gain a wealth of experience in a short time to make a real impact. I am excited to have joined them, share our experiences, and add my heart to their mission.”

“Together, we can achieve our goals and create lasting positive change,” she adds.

Mayamiko truly values this opportunity as well.

With the help and support of Michael Leo, who was a Communications Intern at MC-Tanzania, Mayamiko helped the MC-Tanzania team with its activities and development.

“Participating in this internship is a significant opportunity to dive deep into the field of resource mobilization. I am excited to apply my research and communication skills to meaningful projects while gaining firsthand experience in strategic fundraising, donor engagement, and effective project management,” she says.

For her, this experience holds significant value as it offers a unique opportunity to be part of an organization whose mission resonates with her.

“I worked with an organization that is dedicated to fostering community development and oral health care, enabling me to make a real impact and further develop my expertise in a field I am passionate about.”

The previous edition of the internship brought interns to all three affiliates, demonstrating a strong impact and fostering connections between alumni, affiliates, and the community, highlighting the achievements they accomplished together. Read more about their journeys here.
