MCW GLOBAL IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ITS AFFILIATE, MC-TANZANIA TO HOLD YOUNG LEADERS CONFERENCE FOCUSED ON LEADERSHIP IN ORAL HEALTH

September 5, 2022, Dar es Salaam – MCW Global, in partnership with its affiliate, MC-Tanzania, will hold an in-person Young Leaders Conference from September 6th through the 8th at the Seashells Millennium Hotel in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania focusing on Leadership in Oral Health for Eastern and Southern African young oral health professionals. Bringing together 26 participants from Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zambia, the Conference will redefine the concept of leadership and introduce skills for community oral health engagement.

The aim of the Conference is to improve oral health by expanding participants’ leadership knowledge while engaging them in meaningful discussions that advance oral health in their region. Additionally, the Conference will provide a platform for participants to identify and forge solutions for the prevailing challenges in oral health through a region-specific lens. Participants will leave the Conference connected to a wider network of support, consisting of professionals from various backgrounds including the oral health, private and technology sectors. Discussions will also address the linkage between modern leadership and oral health, the challenges in the oral health community, and the potential of networking and resource mobilization for oral health.

There has been growing recognition in recent years that poor health and well-being are not merely ailments of the physical body, but also correlate to social and economic status. Oral health inequalities are representative of this reality. In Africa, oral diseases are increasingly being recognized as a major public health problem which has direct consequences on the community’s social and economic standing. Vital to addressing these challenges is the acknowledgement of oral health professionals as community leaders whose efforts are a necessary catalyst for change. According to MCW Global’s Executive Director, Khalid Elachi, “These young oral health professionals are the raison d’être for this year’s Young Leaders Conference 2022 – Tanzania.”

The Young Leaders Conference Tanzania 2022 is co-hosted by MCW Global and its affiliate MC-Tanzania. MCW Global is a US-based non-profit organization with a vision for communities around the world to achieve greater levels of education, improved health, and increased economic security. MC-Tanzania, a locally registered Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) with a mission to contribute towards improving oral health and dental care through existing promotion, prevention, curative and rehabilitation services.
