George Sideris Memorial Scholarship

The George Sideris Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to honor the memory of the late Dr. George Sideris, a biologist teaching at New York University and Long Island University, in New York, USA. This fund commemorates his commitment to MCW and the communities it serves, his passion for teaching and educational travel, and his conviction that the gift of education should be available to all, the world over.

Purpose:
Provide youth leaders involved with MCW or one of its affiliate organizations in Africa for at least two years with opportunities to advance their education via scholarships and educational stipends to certificate or full degree programs.

Criteria:
This fund is open to MCW Leaders who have been associated with MCW for two or more years and should be used for attendance in select educational programs. To download the application, please click here.

10 Recipients, 10 Lives Changed

Since the Sideris Memorial Scholarship was established in 2011, MCW has awarded ten individuals with eleven scholarships.

Country Director

Abdu received his BA in Business in 2015 with the support of a Sideris Scholarship and is currently pursuing an MBA.

Center Coordinator

Happy will be taking secretarial courses, which will enhance her skills in her work as the center coordinator at MCT, Arusha.

“I’m very excited to get the George Sideris Scholarship. I promise I will learn hard in order to help my community here in Arusha.”

Lloyd Ndopu
MC-Zambia
Handicrafts Instructor

Lloyd oversees MC-Zambia’s handicrafts and carves the wood items that are sold by MCW to generate income for the center. Lloyd is working towards earning a Diploma in Arts to enhance his woodcarving and artistic skills.

“I hope to improve my life by becoming a teacher.”
