COMMUNITY LEADERS IN AFRICA INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
SELECTS INTERN FOR MC-TANZANIA

NEW YORK, NY, Feb 24, 2020 – MCW Global’s Community Leaders in Africa Internship Program (CLA) selects its first intern for the program. CLA provides an internship opportunity to further engage and support alumni of the Young Leaders Access Program to develop their skills to address communities’ pressing needs around the world. The program was announced in November 2019 and aims to connect six YLA alumni interns directly with Country Mangers at one of MCW’s affiliate organizations in Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zambia. A core initiative of the program is the Personal Development Plan (PDP) that interns develop to reach their own short–term professional goals.

Gamuchirai Mazingi will be CLA’s first intern to kick off the program and will be based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania working closely with the MC-Tanzania team. Gamuchirai is a young women’s right activist who is passionate about media, communications, and the advancement of women’s education and entrepreneurship. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in media and communications specializing in graphics design, social media, marketing, and photography. Her voluntary wok has seen her leading community development, poetry, and media projects.

Gamuchirai’s first became involved with MCW in 2016 when she attended the Young Leaders Access Program as a mentee and later returned as a mentor in 2019. Her projects focus on reducing the rate of child marriages in her native country Zimbabwe. In addition, she interned with an organization called Katswe Sistahood (a feminist organization), an organization who’s mandate is to reduce child marriages and empower marginalized women. During her internship with MC- Tanzania, Gamuchirai will support fundraising and community building efforts for the Oral Health Care Program. In particular, she aspires to broaden her network and knowledge of proposal writing.
